Synopsis: In the midst of family loss and tragedy 6 year old Kera Moore discovers she has the power to bring people back to life with her tears. However she quickly learns this gift requires an incredible sacrifice.

 

Title: Dream by Nilja Mumin (16:38)

Synopsis: A 12-year-old girl strives to rekindle her parent’s dwindling romance at her desert town’s annual carnival, and learns painful lessons about love in the process. Adapted from Nijla Mu'min's short story, "The Carnival", this bittersweet family drama looks at dream and reality in the mind of a developing girl who who waits for her truck-driving father to come home.

Synopsis: A Nigerian woman living in America struggles to convince her traditionalist husband not to circumcise their ten-year-old daughter. 

 

Title: Roubado directed by Erica Watson (French)(17:00)

Synopsis: Roubado tells the story of Alain Castelo, an introverted Afro-Portuguese teen growing up in the south of France.  As he suffers his parents' recent breakup, the only solace he can muster is his penchant for photography.  When his mother's new live-in boyfriend crosses the line, his eyes are opened to the world and he can no longer hide behind the viewfinder of his vintage camera.

Synopsis:  Reflection is a short film about a young man battling with a long term health issue.  We are introduced to a glimpse of his mindset, being someone who constantly doubts himself but we find out that his motivation to stay fit and healthy is a survival method.

Synopsis:  Valerie, a successful Black female attorney, must navigate a major career move and the return of her college-aged daughter while hiding her deteriorating mental health.

Synopsis:  The culture and tradition of cowboying is alive and well...in Brooklyn. And it's as Black as it ever was.  Brooklyn's own Federation of Black Cowboys ride the trails, transport inner city kids off the streets and onto horses, and work to preserve the legacy of the forgotten 1/3 of old west cowboys who were black.

 

Title: Open South Africa directed by Hosanna Marshall— Documentary (22.10)

Synopsis:  In her 25th year of life, a suspicion Karmen has harbored for years becomes the truth. The unidentifiable man in the photo is her Father. What she discovers next takes her from Louisville, KY across the ocean to Cape Town, South Africa where she will uncover and seek to integrate truths that inform her past, her present and her future.

Synopsis: A Southern Gothic Exploration into the power dynamics of Bible Belt ministry through the eyes of adolescent holy water salesmen.

Synopsis: When Pierre, a drug mule with a heart of gold and a penchant for poetry accompanies FRANTZ, a fellow dealer on a resupply mission, they get more than they bargained for when Pierre is forced to take sides during an incident with his supplier and a former client.

Synopsis: When her mother falls sick, Kibibi’s father, Ed, is tasked with taking her to the market to get her hair braided before school begins. To do so he tries selling his pet rooster, but what starts off well intentioned turns desperate as his grandson enters the local underground cockfighting circuit on his own.
